Patient: 35-year-old male presents to ED:

  • 3 day history of:

    • Dyspnea

    • Recent chest infection (pneumonia)

    • Diminished AE to R side

    • Rest of history is healthy

Case 3 Diagnosis

Right Exudative Pleural Effusion

  • Blunted costophrenic angle seen on R side in AP and Lateral imaging.

  • Meniscus sign seen on AP imaging.

  • Likely exudative with infectious history of pneumonia

 

Recommendations

  • Manage underlying condition to resolve effusion

  • If large effusion, thoracentesis
